Jesus Falcis will remain as barangay kagawad of Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City, after the postponement of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) moved the next polls to 2028.
Falcis, who was elected as a barangay councilor in the 2023 BSKE, is among the incumbent local officials whose terms were extended by the postponement. Malacañang announced Friday that President Bongbong Marcos had signed the law moving the BSKE to November 2028, extending the terms of current local officials and resetting the electoral cycle to five years.
The postponement allows Falcis to remain in local government longer, continuing his service as kagawad of Barangay Laging Handa until the next barangay elections.
Separately, Falcis has been pursuing a possible national political career after announcing in April his plans to run for the Senate in 2028. He opened his bid with a whopping 1% voter preference in a Pulse Asia survey conducted from late June to early July this year.
Before entering electoral politics, Falcis gained public attention as a lawyer and political commentator. He is also serving a one-year suspension from practicing law imposed by the Supreme Court over a social media post that the Court found to have violated professional conduct rules.
Falcis, who frequently uses social media to criticize public officials, lawyers and other personalities, is facing multiple cyber libel complaints and charges, as well as a pending disbarment case filed by figures and entities from different political and legal groups.
Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco filed 38 counts of cyber libel against Falcis before the Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office over a series of social media posts directed at him. Tiangco accused Falcis of carrying out a prolonged campaign of defamatory statements, turning months of online attacks into formal criminal proceedings.
Sen. Chiz Escudero asked the Supreme Court to disbar Falcis, citing social media posts that he described as abusive, demeaning and malicious and arguing that the lawyer breached the ethical standards expected of members of the Bar.
Falcis is also facing two cyber libel charges before a Makati court stemming from allegations he made against the law firm DivinaLaw.
