After 13 years, Grand Theft Auto VI has officially entered its final countdown as Rockstar Games opened pre-orders worldwide on June 25, marking the beginning of what industry analysts expect to become one of the biggest entertainment launches ever.
For Filipino gamers, joining that global launch will cost about ₱4,900 for the Standard Edition and roughly ₱6,100 for the Ultimate Edition based on current exchange rates, making GTA VI one of the biggest gaming releases to arrive with a premium price tag.
The game launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and XBOX Series X/S. Rockstar has not announced a release date for PC.
The company also confirmed that every boxed retail copy will contain a download code instead of a game disc. Rockstar states, “Physical copies of GTA 6 will contain a code that can be redeemed for the digital download of the game. A disk will not be included in the box.”
Released in 2013, Grand Theft Auto V has sold about 230 million copies worldwide, making it the second best-selling video game of all time after Minecraft. That record has fueled extraordinary anticipation for its successor. Ampere Analysis said, “The full launch including pre-orders will be the biggest entertainment launch ever… bigger than any movie, TV series, music concert or album.” Investment bank Piper Sandler projects GTA VI could sell around 45 million copies at launch.
The release also marks the return to Vice City, the fictional city that first became a fan favorite in Rockstar’s 2002 hit Grand Theft Auto Vice City. More than two decades later, GTA VI brings players back to one of the franchise’s most recognizable settings.
Industry estimates place GTA VI’s development cost at up to $2 billion. If accurate, it would make the project the most expensive video game ever produced.
Rockstar also confirmed GTA VI will launch as a single-player experience with no GTA Online equivalent on day one. Players who pre-order or purchase the game before November 20 will receive the Vintage Vice City Pack at no additional cost, while physical editions begin shipping on November 12 to allow buyers time to download and pre-load the game before launch.
