American children’s educator and YouTube creator Ms Rachel donated $5,000, or about ₱314,000, to a Filipino family after a mother tagged her in a Threads post seeking help for her younger son, who was diagnosed with omphalocele.
Daisilyn “Daisy” Mejia posted a video on Oct. 2 of her older son singing “I Love a Rainbow,” one of Ms. Rachel’s songs. Mejia said the boy loved the song and asked Ms. Rachel if she could share the fundraiser for his younger brother.
Ms. Rachel, whose real name is Rachel Griffin Accurso, responded by saying she had covered the entire $5,000 fundraising target.
“I donated the full amount. He’s so precious and much love to the whole family. Hope his brother feels better soon,” Accurso wrote.
A $5,000 contribution under her name was also shown on the family’s GoGetFunding page.
Reports said the money was intended to help with the younger child’s medical expenses. One report said the donation was enough to cover the hospital bill reported at the time, although there is no verified public accounting showing how the family will divide the money between the existing bill, treatment and any succeeding medical expenses.
The child’s name and age have not been disclosed in the verified reports reviewed. Details about the severity of his condition and his specific treatment schedule have also not been publicly established.
Mejia later thanked Accurso for helping the family. Public reports available as of Oct. 6 have not provided a subsequent update on the younger child’s condition or confirmed whether additional treatment expenses remain after the donation.
