PLDT is preparing to sell more than internet. The telco giant is looking at a new home subscription bundle that would pair broadband service with residential solar power, potentially bringing solar panels closer to Filipino households without requiring a heavy one-time payment.
The planned offer was announced in Manila on Thursday, with PLDT saying it is working with a solar energy provider. The company has not named the partner or released full pricing details, but the goal is to combine high-speed internet connectivity with renewable energy systems so customers can stay connected while managing electricity costs.
PLDT said early test marketing produced “highly promising results,” with strong interest from consumers looking for a more convenient digital and energy solution. Under the plan, households could access solar infrastructure through affordable monthly payments spread over several years. That matters because solar power can promise long-term savings but often comes with a large upfront cost.
The proposed bundle could change how some households think about home utilities. Instead of treating internet and electricity savings as separate concerns, PLDT wants to package both under a monthly subscription. That means a home internet customer could eventually sign up for broadband and solar panel installation in one arrangement, depending on the final offer.
PLDT chief operating officer Menardo “Butch” Jimenez Jr. said the idea could help customers prepare their homes for the future.
“If people can have solar panels installed together with internet in one go, it should be very compelling for our customers, especially the ones who wish to future-proof their homes,” Jimenez said.
PLDT senior vice president and PLDT Home head John Palanca said the planned offer expands the company’s role inside the household.
“Aside from enabling our customers to upgrade their homes in the most convenient possible way, this also helps PLDT own the whole home, and not just the internet portion,” Palanca said.
