Senator Risa Hontiveros said on Friday that she is seriously considering a run for president in the 2028 elections and is preparing for the possibility.
“Salamat sa mga nag-express ng ganoong confidence sa akin. So I am seriously considering it, preparing for that possibility,” Hontiveros said during a press conference.
Hontiveros said their ranks should eventually unite behind a single contender who emerges as the strongest candidate.
“I think it is really necessary na magkaroon kami from our ranks ng strongest, best, most attractive and hopeful offer sa ating mga kababayan at mga kapwa botante,” she said.
She expressed hope that their ranks could unite behind one candidate by the end of the year or, at the latest, by the first quarter of next year.
“There can be only one para may fighting chance. Then laban na,” she said.
Asked what factors would influence the decision on who should emerge as their coalition’s candidate, Hontiveros pointed to survey results and the breadth of public support. She said these would be key indicators of a candidate’s strength, adding that voter backing remains the most important factor in determining the viability of a presidential bid.
“Yung survey results of that strength, of that wide support mula sa ating mga kababayan at mga botante kasi yun naman yung pinakaimportanteng factor, I believe, in terms of viability ng isang kandidatura,” she said.
