Could Nicki Minaj become the next voice of the White House? The rapper has emerged as an unexpected name for President Donald J. Trump‘s next press secretary after a senior administration official jokingly suggested her for the role, drawing attention from political prediction markets.
The post became vacant after Katie Zacharia left on Oct. 16, just five days after taking the position following Karoline Leavitt’s departure in August. The press secretary serves as the president’s spokesperson and handles questions from members of the media.
On Oct. 25, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung shared footage of Minaj aboard Air Force One praising Trump’s leadership, economic policies and foreign affairs approach. Cheung jokingly suggested the rapper could become the next press secretary.
By Oct. 26, Minaj appeared among potential successors on Polymarket, where people trade contracts on future events. Its percentages reflect traders’ expectations, not a public opinion survey. Her implied chance briefly reached 8%, behind Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly at 18% and commentator Scott Jennings at 9%. By Oct. 27, Minaj’s figure fell to 2%, while rival platform Kalshi placed it at 4%. Neither platform plays a role in White House appointments.
Minaj has publicly supported Trump in recent months. On Jan. 28, the Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper joined him at the Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, D.C., endorsing investment accounts for American children and calling herself his number one fan.
She later displayed a Trump Gold Card and said her U.S. citizenship paperwork was being finalized. A White House official clarified that her card was commemorative, not an immigration document. Minaj has not publicly confirmed obtaining U.S. citizenship.
On Oct. 25, she also appeared with Trump at a Republican rally in Port Huron, Michigan, ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections, expressing support for Trump and Republican candidates. During the rally, Trump praised the rapper’s behind.
The White House has not announced a replacement for Zacharia or confirmed any formal offer to Minaj. Her name remains part of speculation following Cheung’s remarks.
