Vice President Sara Duterte visited families affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Barangay Tuyan, Malapatan, personally offering prayers and condolences to residents affected by the disaster.
Among those Duterte met was the family of a married couple from Barangay Tuyan who died after the powerful earthquake struck Mindanao. The Vice President joined residents in prayer and spent time speaking directly with relatives as they mourned the loss of their loved ones.
“Taos-puso tayong nakikiramay sa mga nasawi kasunod ng malakas na lindol na yumanig sa Mindanao kamakailan, kabilang na ang isang mag-asawa mula sa Barangay Tuyan sa Bayan ng Malapatan, Sarangani,” Duterte said.
According to the Vice President, she personally visited the barangay to offer prayers and extend sympathy to the bereaved family following the tragedy.
“Kahapon ay tumungo tayo sa nasabing barangay upang mag-alay ng panalangin at personal na makausap at makiramay sa naulilang pamilya,” she said.
During her visit, Duterte also urged residents to remain vigilant and prepared in the face of natural disasters.
“Pahimangno nato sa tanan nga ang pinakaanay nga buhaton mao ang kanunay nga mag-igmat ug mangandam, hilabi na nga wala kita masayod kung kanus-a moigo ang trahedya sama sa linog.”
The Philippines lies along the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the world’s most seismically active regions, making earthquakes a recurring challenge for many communities across the country. Disaster preparedness agencies have consistently emphasized the importance of readiness and public awareness to reduce risks during major seismic events.
Duterte ended her message by expressing solidarity with families affected by the earthquake and encouraging Filipinos to remain prepared for future disasters while supporting communities facing tragedy and loss.
