A Polish engineering company has unveiled plans for a 207-meter statue of Jesus Christ in Ilocos Sur that could become the world’s tallest depiction of Jesus if approved and completed.
Poland-based engineering and construction company Slipform has prepared a conceptual structural design and submitted it to a Filipino investor. The proposal remains under evaluation, with detailed technical documentation to follow once the concept is accepted.
Slipform chief executive Daniel Kisała told Radio Szczecin that the company was awaiting verification by Philippine engineers and authorities before proceeding to the next stage.
At its proposed height, the monument would stand more than five times taller than Rio de Janeiro’s Christ the Redeemer, which measures 38 meters including its pedestal.
Kisała said Slipform could construct the monument’s reinforced-concrete supporting core in approximately 40 days using technology that allows concrete work to continue around the clock. That estimate covers the core alone. Preliminary estimates place the entire project’s construction period at up to 24 months, including foundations, site preparation and installation of the statue’s exterior sections.
The company said it handed the concept to the investor during the Polish delegation’s visit to the Philippines this month, accompanying President Karol Nawrocki.
The three tallest completed Jesus statues in the Philippines are the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Roxas City, Capiz, which stands about 40 meters including its pedestal; the Divine Mercy Statue in Calbiga, Samar, at 36.5 meters; and the Divine Mercy Statue in Marilao, Bulacan, whose statue itself is about 30.5 meters and rises to roughly 46 meters including its pedestal structure.
