Animal welfare advocate Marcelle Marcelino has called on the public to help identify a suspect accused of killing a kitten by slamming it against a wall in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
In a Facebook post, Marcelino said an eyewitness reported seeing a man at around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday near Bellagio I condominium along Forbestown Road carrying a plastic bag with a crying kitten inside and striking it against a brick wall before fleeing toward 26th Street.
The suspect was described as an Asian man wearing pants and a green T-shirt. The witness attempted to pursue him while alerting nearby security personnel. Marcelino said a formal report has been filed and that a request for CCTV footage from local security authorities is underway.
“We are currently seeking assistance in identifying an individual involved in a serious case of animal cruelty,” Marcelino wrote. “We urge every community to remain vigilant and to support efforts in protecting the voiceless animals who have every right to live without harm.”
A similar account had surfaced days earlier on Reddit, where a user described witnessing a man carrying a cat inside a bag in the same area. The Reddit user said the animal could be heard meowing loudly, and the man later slammed the bag against a wall before running away, prompting a bystander on a scooter to give chase.
Marcelino, who has long been active in animal welfare efforts in BGC, is known for establishing and managing shelters and advocating for the protection of community animals. In 2018, he raised concerns over the disappearance of stray cats near the Shangri-La at the Fort, calling attention to alleged removals linked to pest control measures.
His work has focused on rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming stray animals, as well as promoting spaying and neutering programs to address overpopulation.
The latest incident, he said, underscores the need for stronger vigilance and coordinated action among residents, authorities and private security groups. “If you do not like animals, the least you can do is leave them alone and not hurt them,” Marcelino said.
