House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III has vowed to pursue measures addressing low wages, inadequate benefits and job insecurity as labor groups renewed calls for a legislated pay hike.
In his Labor Day message, Dy acknowledged these issues, saying they continue to affect many workers across the country.
He emphasized the need for legislative action to address these concerns and assured that the House would continue pushing bills aimed at improving labor conditions.
Several labor groups, including Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU), marked Labor Day with protests, demanding a nationwide wage increase of ₱1,200. These groups argue that rising prices, driven by both domestic inflation and global crises like the Middle East conflict, have left workers struggling to keep up.
Dy acknowledged the critical role of workers in the country’s economy, saying, “Kayo ang nagsisilbing lakas at buhay ng ating bansa—you are the true lifeblood of our nation,” he said.
As Congress resumes on May 4, pressure is mounting on lawmakers to pass bills that will provide relief for workers amid rising costs.
