Actor and former Makati City Vice Mayor Edu Manzano has denounced a fabricated political statement circulating under his name, saying his photo and identity were used to falsely attribute an attack against supporters of President Bongbong Marcos.
The viral graphic claimed Manzano had written, “Dalawang klase lang ang nagtatanggol kay BBM: Isang may bayad at isang may sayad. Alin ka dun sa dalawa?” Manzano said plainly that the statement never came from him.
“FAKE. I NEVER SAID THIS,” Manzano wrote in a Facebook post.
“Someone used my photo and name to manufacture a statement and falsely attribute it to me.”
Lawyer Levito D. Baligod was among those who initially reposted the fabricated quote before taking it down after Manzano publicly denied making the statement. “I had to take down my re-post about this same meme when Edu Manzano disowned the message and tagged it as FAKE,” Baligod wrote in his own Facebook post.
Manzano, who served as Makati vice mayor from 1998 to 2001, has remained publicly vocal on political and governance issues years after leaving elected office. His response stressed that his willingness to criticize public issues should not be treated as permission to invent statements in his name.
“Let me be clear ….. I discuss issues and when necessary, the personalities responsible for them. But I speak in my own words. I do not need anyone inventing statements on my behalf,” Manzano wrote.
His statement directly separates his actual political commentary from the fabricated message targeting Marcos supporters. Manzano did not validate the quote’s attack on people defending the President. He instead challenged those spreading political content to confront what he has genuinely said.
“Criticize me for what I actually say. Challenge my views if you disagree. But fabricating quotes is not criticism, it’s deception.”
The incident is not the first time Manzano has had to distance himself from political statements falsely attached to his name. In October 2025, he also clarified that a social media post calling for Marcos to resign had been altered from one of his original posts about taxation.
