Filipino pole vault star EJ Obiena captured his first outdoor gold medal of the 2026 season after topping the men’s pole vault event at the Czesław Cybulski Memorial in Poznań, Poland.
Obiena cleared 5.72 meters on his second attempt to secure the gold medal in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet, outlasting a field of 10 international competitors.
Great Britain’s Owen Heard settled for silver after clearing 5.60 meters, while Italy’s Matteo Oliveri also finished with 5.60 meters to claim bronze on countback.
The 5.72-meter clearance marked another strong showing for Obiena, coming just weeks after he opened his outdoor campaign with a silver-medal finish in Düsseldorf. His season-best remains 5.78 meters, which he recorded during the indoor season in Berlin.
The victory gives the Filipino Olympian valuable momentum as he continues his campaign in Europe against some of the world’s top pole vaulters ahead of the major international competitions later this season.
