Francisco Motors has unveiled the Elektron, a five-door compact crossover that marks the arrival of the Philippines’ first locally developed passenger electric vehicle and a historic milestone for the country’s automotive industry.
Established in 1947 by Anastacio Trinidad Francisco in Zapote, Las Piñas, Francisco Motors began as a small paint shop before evolving into one of the country’s pioneering jeepney manufacturers. Nearly eight decades later, the company is opening a new chapter by entering the passenger electric vehicle market.
Introduced on July 27, the Elektron will be offered in Basic, Fashion and Deluxe variants. Preliminary company specifications show the Basic model equipped with a single electric motor, a 54.9-kWh battery, a claimed driving range of more than 400 kilometers and a top speed of 160 km/h. The Fashion variant increases battery capacity to 63.2 kWh and carries a claimed range of more than 500 kilometers.
The range-topping Deluxe features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, an 81.5-kWh battery, a claimed driving range exceeding 600 kilometers and a top speed of 180 km/h. Francisco Motors priced it at ₱1,947,000, while prices for the Basic and Fashion variants have yet to be announced.
All variants support CCS2 fast charging. Francisco Motors said charging can take about 30 minutes, depending on the charger’s output and the battery’s state of charge. Eligible privately owned vehicles are also expected to receive an EV-system warranty of up to eight years or 150,000 kilometers, subject to final terms.
The Elektron comes with digital displays and touchscreen controls, while select variants may include blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning and collision alert systems.
Founder and Chairman Elmer Francisco said “the vehicle platform itself is already proven in real-world conditions and is already operating on the streets in several countries, although still in small quantities.”
