An Indonesian man dressed in traditional white wedding attire staged a marriage ceremony with a rice cooker wearing a bridal veil, sharing photos of himself kissing the appliance and signing documents.
In photographs posted on Facebook in September 2021, Khoirul Anam of Magelang, Central Java, appeared in a white cap and floral garland while sitting at a table beside the rice cooker, recreating scenes from a wedding ceremony.
The appliance was covered with a sheer white veil. In one photo, Anam leaned in to kiss it, while another showed him signing documents as if making their union official.
Anam praised his chosen partner as quiet, loving and skilled at cooking. His posts received thousands of reactions and shares, bringing the unusual pairing beyond his social media audience.
Four days later, however, he announced that they had separated. He explained that while the rice cooker could cook rice, it could not prepare other dishes.
The announcement further fueled interest in the story, as the wedding photos and the subsequent breakup attracted attention from audiences around the world.
