Former Vice President Leni Robredo said she is not keen on seeking a national post in the 2028 elections, stating that her focus remains on her work as Naga City mayor.
In an interview with DWNX FM, Robredo said she has made a firm personal decision not to return to national politics. “Sigurado na ako sa sarili ko na hindi na ko ma-national,” she said, signaling that she will not run for president or any other national position.
Robredo, who currently serves as mayor of Naga City, said there is still significant work to be done at the local level. She noted that while some of her administration’s targets are achievable, more initiatives remain unfinished. “Sa hiling ko considerably, m-aa-achieve ta man si mga pigset nin … pero beyond that kadakol pang gigibuhon,” she said, referring to ongoing development efforts in the city.
She also described the limitations of her current three-year term, calling it too short to complete all planned programs.
“Ako sa tingin ko, ang three years maiksi. Maiksi siya para gawin ang lahat. In fact, very frustrating para sa akin… na marami ang gusto kong gawin na hindi ko mamadali dahil kailangan kong i-navigate ang bureaucracy. Dahil marami rin ang hindi ko control,” Robredo said.
Robredo added that she is likely to seek a second term as mayor to continue her projects. She acknowledged ongoing calls for her to return to national politics but emphasized that her priority remains addressing local concerns in Naga City.
In 2025, Robredo was elected the first female mayor of Naga City, marking a shift from her previous role in national government to local leadership.
