Filipino boxing star and Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial thanked Senator Bong Go for extending medical assistance to a 54-year-old resident of Zamboanga City who required treatment following a reported assault.
Marcial identified the beneficiary as Eric Pamesa of Barangay Lunzuran. He said the request for assistance was coursed through former Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Jade Jamolod.
“I would like to sincerely thank Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go for your unwavering commitment to helping our fellow Filipinos,” Marcial said.
“Today, one of our constituents, Mr. Eric Pamesa, a 54-year-old resident of Barangay Lunzuran, Zamboanga City, received much-needed medical assistance through your office,” he added.
According to Marcial, Pamesa was punched by a 15-year-old boy. The incident was reported to authorities and legal action is being pursued.
Pamesa was later diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a serious condition involving fluid buildup in the brain. Marcial said the condition may have been aggravated by the injury to his head. His post did not include a medical finding directly linking the diagnosis to the reported assault.
Marcial praised Go for supporting Filipinos facing medical emergencies while also recognizing his involvement in Philippine sports. Go has long centered his public work on healthcare access and government medical assistance.
Republic Act 11463 institutionalized Malasakit Centers in hospitals run by the Department of Health and at the Philippine General Hospital. The centers place representatives from government agencies in one location to help qualified patients access medical and financial assistance.
Marcial also used Pamesa’s case to call for stronger sports, education and community programs for young people. As a boxer, he said sports can help develop discipline, respect, responsibility and self-control while steering the youth away from violence.
He urged local officials, barangay leaders and youth officers to expand opportunities for young people while balancing rehabilitation and accountability under the juvenile justice system.
