President Bongbong Marcos said he is open to a possible visa-free travel agreement between the Philippines and Russia following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan.
Marcos said a visa-free arrangement could be considered if it would benefit both countries.
“We did it with India, we’ve done it with China. If it’s something that we feel will be of advantage to both Russia and the Philippines, I don’t see why not,” Marcos said.
Marcos, however, clarified that the proposal was not discussed during his talks with Putin.
The President said visa-free agreements have become increasingly common and could help promote tourism and strengthen ties between countries.
During their meeting, Marcos and Putin discussed bilateral relations and explored areas of cooperation, including energy, agriculture, and food security.
Marcos attended the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit in Kazan, where leaders from Southeast Asia and Russia met to discuss regional and economic cooperation.
