Former presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo said former Vice President Leni Robredo is unlikely to seek the presidency again, pointing to her previous loss and his reading of the current political landscape. He said Robredo has already gone through a national campaign and may no longer pursue another bid.
“I don’t think VP Leni will run. Natalo na siya, ayaw na niya masaktan uli,” he said.
Panelo added that Robredo is aware of the situation on the ground, which he believes favors Vice President Sara Duterte. Duterte has already declared her intention to run for president in 2028, placing her early in the field of potential candidates and positioning her campaign ahead of others.
“Alam naman niya ang sitwasyon… Inday Sara is destined to be President,” he said.
Panelo pointed to Duterte’s current standing and support base as factors that could shape the next presidential race, noting that early indicators and existing political alignment already define the direction of the contest. Surveys and early projections have placed Duterte among the leading figures in discussions surrounding the 2028 elections, reinforcing the position he described.
