When former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno took office, he wasn’t just about empty promises.

Instead, he rolled out programs that had Manila’s seniors saying, “Finally, someone who gets it!” From 2019 to 2022, Moreno championed policies for financial support, healthcare, and social engagement that left a mark on Manila’s elderly population.

And although he’s no longer in office, many seniors still feel the benefits today—because, for once, here was a politician who didn’t just talk the talk.

Monthly Cash and Healthcare That Made a Real Difference

Moreno’s cash allowance program, offering PHP 500 to PHP 1,000 monthly, wasn’t just spare change; for seniors like Celia Geronimo, it was a lifeline. Centenarians even received a celebratory bonus—a rare nod to their milestone.

Healthcare improvements followed, with free check-ups, medications, and upgraded facilities like Ospital ng Maynila. For seniors, this wasn’t just another service—it provided peace of mind.

A Legacy That Keeps Giving

Moreno also created job opportunities for able-bodied seniors, showing that age is just a number. Seniors like Donald Requesto found joy in staying active as a Jollibee greeter, connecting with the community in a meaningful way.

Moreno’s term gave seniors more than benefits; it gave them dignity. From improved senior centers to free movie days, he offered real perks that seniors appreciated. No wonder he’s seen as someone worth bringing back to office.

For Manila’s elderly, Moreno wasn’t just another mayor. If he runs again, his biggest supporters might just be Manila’s senior citizens.
