Apple is preparing its biggest Siri overhaul in nearly 15 years, with the revamped digital assistant expected to become the centerpiece of its next iPhone, iPad and Mac software updates.
The company plans to unveil the changes at its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 8, according to Bloomberg, which reported that the new Siri design will be part of iOS 27 and other upcoming operating system updates. Apple declined to comment, and the final version could still change before launch.
The revamp comes after Apple delayed several artificial intelligence features it first previewed in 2024, leaving the company under pressure to catch up with rivals such as OpenAI, Google and Samsung. The new Siri is expected to roll out to consumers as early as September.
Bloomberg reported that the redesigned Siri will live inside the iPhone’s Dynamic Island and work as an always-on agent across the system and apps. Users will still be able to activate it by saying “Siri” or holding the power button, but Apple is also planning a new swipe-down Search or Ask interface that can launch typed or voice-based queries.
The assistant is expected to use web data, personal information and on-screen content to help users complete tasks. It may also include a dedicated Siri app with a chatbot-style interface, conversation history, voice mode, text input and an attachment picker for documents and photos.
Apple is also testing integrations with outside AI services, including Google Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Users may be able to route queries to third-party AI agents directly from the new interface.
Beyond Siri, Apple is planning AI-powered web search, a more customizable Camera app, new Wallet pass tools, AI features for Photos, natural-language Shortcuts, systemwide grammar checking and upgraded tools for AI-generated images and Genmoji.
The update marks a major test for Apple’s AI strategy as it prepares its next iPhone lineup and tries to prove that Siri can finally compete in the chatbot era.
