Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto pledged the expedited restoration of the damaged F. Manalo Bridge, a vital link between Pasig City and Quezon City.
The Department of Public Works and Highways set a target of one to one and a half years for permanent rehabilitation, identifying right of way acquisition as the primary challenge.
“That is our commitment to Pasig City and Quezon City and to the people of Pasig and QC. Hopefully, we finish this in one year, one and a half years,” Dizon said.
The bridge was temporarily closed after barges struck it during Typhoon Carina in 2024.
Dizon said the bridge will be widened from two lanes to four lanes to improve traffic flow once completed. The government is preparing to allocate an additional ₱700 million from the 2026 or 2027 budget to finish the project.
Despite ongoing work, Dizon said the bridge will remain open on ordinary days to minimize disruption to motorists. “We will not allow this bridge to be closed. Like I said, this should only be closed when there are fewer people in Metro Manila, like during Holy Week, Christmas. This should not be closed on ordinary days.”
Construction faces a right of way challenge on the Quezon City side, where about 100 meters of land remains under dispute.
