Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto has inaugurated a new drainage system and improved sidewalk along Urbano Velasco in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, marking another completed project under the city’s continuing sidewalk and drainage improvements.
The project covers 423 linear meters and cost around ₱5 million. Sotto said the drainage line is 1.1 meters wide and almost 1.2 meters deep, with reinforced concrete box culverts installed to strengthen the system. Along one side of the road, the city also completed a concrete sidewalk measuring 1.5 to 1.8 meters wide for the same length as the drainage works.
“We are committed to making Pasig City more and more walkable, one project at a time,” Sotto said.
The mayor said improved policy is now leading to better projects, as the city prepares another major walkability project spanning roughly three kilometers. He said the local government is already measuring the area, with physical markings and notices expected next as Pasig moves to clear sidewalk and road encroachments.
Sotto said the goal is to turn the upcoming project into a model that can be replicated across city roads as resources allow in the coming years.
The Urbano Velasco project forms part of Pasig’s continuing sidewalk and drainage upgrades, with Sotto also citing recent improvements in Kapitolyo, Bagong Ilog, and Av. Cruz.
The drainage system is intended to improve water flow along Urbano Velasco, while the completed sidewalk provides a designated pedestrian space beside the road. Sotto said the project is part of Pasig City’s continuing effort to improve walkability and drainage infrastructure across local roads.
