Senator JV Ejercito has urged the board of Wack Wack Golf & Country Club to investigate club vice president Lawrence N. Tan and impose penalties if warranted, saying the issue now concerns the standards of the institution itself.
Tan is listed by Wack Wack as vice president, House Committee chairman, and Personnel and Compensation Committee chairman. The club’s board of directors is responsible for setting its policies and direction, placing internal discipline and governance under its leadership.
Ejercito, a former Wack Wack president, made the call after the National Bureau of Investigation said it was preparing a solicitation complaint against Tan before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office. The complaint followed an April 21 raid at a KTV bar in Pasig City, where Tan was reportedly among those found during the operation.
“It is with deep concern…that I call upon the Board to take the necessary action in upholding the standards and integrity of Wack Wack Golf & Country Club,” Ejercito said.
The senator also raised complaints involving Tan’s alleged treatment of caddies and club employees. Ejercito said Tan had been accused of intimidating and humiliating workers, allegations he said should be formally examined by the board.
The controversy now leaves Wack Wack’s leadership with a direct internal question. Tan’s reported legal exposure is being handled outside the club, but the allegations involving his conduct as an officer and his treatment of workers fall within the board’s own responsibility.
Wack Wack has yet to announce any disciplinary action against Tan. Any sanction would have to move through the club’s internal process and remain separate from the complaint being prepared by the NBI.
