Department of Information and Communications Technology – DICT Secretary Henry Aguda will remain in office, with Malacañang saying he has confirmed that he will continue heading the department despite reports that he had submitted his resignation.
Among those who publicly circulated the resignation claim was suspended lawyer Jesus Falcis, who posted that Aguda had supposedly sent a resignation letter to Malacañang and that it was already with the Presidential Management Staff. Aguda and the Palace later clarified that the claim was false.
During a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said Aguda personally confirmed that he would remain at the DICT. She also shared Aguda’s statement addressing the reports, saying he remains focused on fulfilling his duties and ensuring continuity within the department.
“I am aware of the reports circulating regarding my position as Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology,” Aguda said.
“At this time, I remain focused on carrying out my responsibilities and ensuring the continuity of the Department’s work.”
Aguda has headed the DICT since March 2025, when President Bongbong Marcos appointed him to succeed Ivan Uy. His continued tenure keeps the department under the same leadership as it oversees connectivity, cybersecurity, digital public services and major government technology initiatives.
The clarification puts to rest speculation about a possible change in leadership as the department tackles issues including online safety for children, social media access, connectivity, cybersecurity, digital public services and national ICT infrastructure.
Aguda has also laid out plans to develop a national fiber backbone, expand digital and digitally enabled jobs, and bolster online safety and cybersecurity capabilities. The DICT has described these initiatives as part of a broader effort to improve access to government services while addressing internet connectivity gaps in underserved areas.
