The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) conducted a crime scene reconstruction at a resort in Aurora as part of its ongoing investigation into the deaths of Ateneo de Manila University basketball players Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.
Investigators returned to the site where the two student-athletes drowned during a team training camp earlier this month to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident and compare witness accounts with conditions on the ground.
The reconstruction comes as the CIDG continues to examine possible criminal liability arising from the tragedy. Authorities have already interviewed players, coaches, school officials, and other individuals connected to the training camp.
The investigation gained further attention after DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla publicly called on former Ateneo head coach Tab Baldwin to personally face investigators, describing him as a key figure in efforts to establish what transpired during the training camp and warning that he could face contempt proceedings if he failed to appear.
Baldwin appeared before the CIDG on June 19, days after being urged by authorities to cooperate with the probe, and provided his statement to investigators.
The CIDG is expected to use the findings from the reconstruction, along with witness testimonies and other evidence gathered during the investigation, in determining whether charges will be filed.
