Sen. Bam Aquino denounced claims that the Senate leadership change was driven by a minority bloc agenda to push Charter change or a no-election scenario, calling the allegation false and misleading.
Aquino said there was no truth to claims that minority senators plotted to amend the Constitution for that purpose, warning that the public should not be dragged into misinformation while Filipinos continue to face rising prices and daily economic pressure.
“Fake news at walang katotohanan ang sinasabing nagkaroon ng leadership change sa Senado dahil sa banta ng Charter Change o no-election scenario,” Aquino said.
Aquino rejected the attempt to paint the minority as a bloc pushing constitutional change, saying the claim only confuses the public and distracts from issues that directly affect ordinary Filipinos. In a separate interview, Aquino said minority senators had been meeting regularly, but Charter change was never discussed in those meetings.
“Mali at mapanlinlang ang palabasing may plano ang minority na baguhin ang Konstitusyon para sa ganitong layunin,” he said.
The issue surfaced amid claims linking the leadership shakeup to Charter change, term extension, and a no-election scenario. Aquino said he believes senators across blocs would oppose any attempt to alter the 1987 Constitution or cancel elections.
Aquino urged the Senate to shut down false claims quickly and refocus on work that matters to the public.
“Sa panahon ngayon na patuloy pa rin ang pagtaas ng mga bilihin at gastusin, mas mahalagang tutukan ang trabaho at ibalik ang pokus sa mga usaping tunay na may epekto sa buhay ng bawat Pilipino,” he said.
Aquino’s statement pushed back against misinformation surrounding the leadership issue while pressing the chamber to return to concerns that directly affect Filipino households.
