Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte welcomed the officers and crew of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force vessel JS Ikazuchi during its goodwill visit at Sasa Port in Davao City.
Duterte met with the Japanese delegation led by Commander Nobukazu Ryuzo, who also gave the mayor a tour of the vessel. Japanese Consul General Ono Hirotaka, Councilor Rachel Zozobrado, who chairs the City Council Committee on International Relations, and other Davao City officials were also present during the visit.
In his message, Duterte underscored the importance of peace and stability in Asia, saying these remain essential to economic growth, cooperation, and stronger relations among neighboring countries.
“As neighbors in Asia, we have a common responsibility to promote stability in our region. Peace remains the foundation upon which our people can thrive, our economies can grow, and future generations can prosper,” Duterte said.
The mayor also said Davao City and Japan share a long-standing relationship built on mutual respect, friendship, and a common commitment to progress.
