The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) clarified that the viral snake-like road markings in Carranglan, Nueva Ecija, which drew attention online, had already been repaired in June before the video resurfaced amid the recent rains.
The video, originally posted in June, returned to social media feeds after showing the visibly uneven road and similarly wavy lane markings, drawing both jokes and frustration from netizens.
The DPWH said the road was immediately repaired when it first went viral months ago, and released photos showing the road had been straightened, along with lane markings that were no longer in the snake-like form seen in the viral footage.
Beyond repairing the Carranglan road section, the DPWH has continued conducting repairs in areas affected by recent monsoon rains and flooding that damaged roads and other infrastructure nationwide.
Maintenance crews have been addressing weather-related damage, including repairing damaged pavement and filling potholes to restore safer conditions for motorists and commuters.
Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon said restoring damaged infrastructure and transportation links remains the agency’s priority following the severe weather.
In a social media post, the DPWH said the repair efforts are part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to immediately restore roads damaged by the recent heavy rains.
