Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte and Davao City Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte remain among the strongest prospective candidates for the 2028 Senate race, with both brothers landing inside the top seven of Tangere’s latest nationwide senatorial preference survey.
Baste ranked second overall with 37.0% voter preference, trailing only Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto at 42.1%. Pulong, meanwhile, placed seventh with 31.6%, putting both Duterte brothers comfortably within the survey’s upper tier.
Baste also gained 2.7 percentage points from the previous survey, further strengthening his position near the top of the 75-name field. Tangere highlighted the performance of both brothers as one of the key developments in its August results.
The strength of the Duterte-aligned contingent becomes even more pronounced beyond the brothers. Robin Padilla ranked fourth with 36.0%, while Alan Peter Cayetano placed sixth with 32.3%, meaning four figures associated with the broader Duterte political camp occupied four of the survey’s first seven positions.
Further down the field, Atty. Jimmy Bondoc was also identified by Tangere as one of the candidates gaining momentum, adding another Duterte-era political figure showing movement ahead of 2028.
The non-commissioned Tangere survey was conducted from August 12 to 15, 2026 among 2,400 respondents nationwide and carried a ±1.96% margin of error at a 95% confidence level.
