Three people were killed and five others were injured after a shooting inside San Jose National High School in Barangay San Jose, Tacloban City, on Monday, June 22. Police Regional Office 8 said the incident occurred at around 9:00 a.m. within the school premises.
Based on the initial investigation of the Tacloban City Police Office, the shooting resulted in “three (3) fatalities and five (5) injured individuals.”
The injured victims were brought to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Authorities have yet to release the identities of the fatalities, the injured victims, and the suspects.
Responding police personnel secured the area and arrested one suspect following the incident. PRO-8 said follow-up and manhunt operations are ongoing for another suspect who remains at large.
The Tacloban City Police Office is continuing its investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and establish the motive behind the incident. PRO-8 said additional police personnel have been deployed in the area to ensure the safety of students, school personnel, parents, and residents.
Authorities urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information as the investigation continues.
“We urge the public to remain calm, refrain from disseminating unverified information, and cooperate with authorities by providing any information that may aid the ongoing investigation,” PRO-8 said.
Police said measures are being undertaken to locate and arrest the remaining suspect and maintain public safety and security.
