CJ Hirro called out Marvin Rillo over a disclaimer accompanying a cockfighting video posted on his gamefarm’s Facebook page stating that “No Animals were harmed in this post.”
The video shows an actual cockfight involving game fowls entered by Rillo’s farm, with the roosters visibly fighting and sustaining injuries during the match.
Hirro questioned how the page could claim that no animals were harmed when the footage itself depicts the animals fighting and being injured.
“Putting a ‘No animals were harmed in this post’ disclaimer on videos posted by his farm showing actual cockfights they participate in does not make a demonstrably false statement true,” Hirro said.
“The videos depict actual cockfights in which the game fowls fight and sustain injuries. Claiming that no animals were harmed is factually contradictory. The harm is literally part of what the footage depicts,” he added.
The disclaimer commonly communicates that animals appearing in a piece of content were not harmed in the course of producing it. In this case, however, the footage is not merely associated with cockfighting. It depicts the fight itself.
Whether cockfighting is conducted under circumstances permitted by law is a separate issue from the accuracy of the disclaimer. Hirro’s criticism is directed specifically at the representation that no animals were harmed despite the content visibly depicting otherwise.
