A 20-year-old undocumented Filipino man is facing deportation from the United States after stabbing two of his roommates, including a 70-year-old, over an argument about orange juice, leaving both victims with serious head and facial injuries.
Phil John Amazona Yumang was found guilty on two counts of attempted murder and battery with the use of a deadly weapon following the February 2025 attack in Las Vegas. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested him on April 28, just days after his conviction, and moved to detain him ahead of formal deportation proceedings.
According to ICE, the violence began when a 40-year-old roommate insulted Yumang during a dispute over orange juice. Yumang then stabbed the man five times in the head, face, and shoulder. When a 70-year-old roommate tried to intervene, Yumang also attacked him, inflicting wounds to the ear, eye, and head.
Yumang had earlier been released on bail and placed under electronic monitoring following his arrest, before ICE took him into federal custody.
His arrest was part of a one-day operation on April 28 that also resulted in the detention of undocumented individuals from Mexico, Cambodia, Guatemala, and Nicaragua. Department of Homeland Security Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis cited the operation in a broader enforcement statement, saying agents had apprehended “multiple murderers, pedophiles, and one individual convicted of two counts of attempted murder” in actions carried out that day.
Since the wider ICE enforcement campaign began, a total of 58 Filipinos have been arrested nationwide. DHS said some of those detained are considered among the most dangerous undocumented individuals in the country.
Yumang remains in federal custody as deportation proceedings continue.
