Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso released ₱173.6 million in terminal leave benefits to 260 retired city government employees, addressing delayed payments that some former workers had been waiting for as long as four years. The release covered retirees from different years of service, including employees who spent more than four decades working for the city.
The payment marked the city government’s effort to settle long-pending benefits owed to workers who had already completed their public service. Domagoso said the city had a responsibility to ensure retirees received what they earned after years of working for Manila.
“How would you feel if the city you worked for was the very one withholding what is rightfully yours?”
The ₱173,669,852 distribution was based on each retiree’s years of service. The largest group included 91 employees who served between 31 and 40 years and received a combined ₱83.2 million, while 24 retirees with more than 40 years of service received a total of ₱43.4 million.
Domagoso also said the city would streamline the processing of terminal leave payments for future retirees once clearance requirements are completed. He previously cited efforts to settle unpaid Government Service Insurance System contributions and penalties to help city employees access their retirement benefits.
“You worked hard and labored for this. You deserve this.”
The release comes as the Manila government continues programs focused on supporting city workers and residents, particularly senior citizens.
