Naga City Mayor Leni Gerona Robredo is leading a transition toward solar power as the city government installs rooftop solar panels on key public facilities, aiming to reduce electricity expenses and generate long-term savings for government operations.
The Naga City Rooftop Solar PV Project is being implemented at the Naga City People’s Hall, with the Raul S. Roco Library also set to be included in the rollout. The project features donated solar panels from Emerging Power Inc. and free installation services from Ecological Energy Technologies Inc., allowing the city to add renewable energy infrastructure without additional installation costs.
The shift is expected to help lower the electricity expenses of city-owned facilities amid rising utility costs. Robredo said the move is part of Naga’s broader direction toward renewable energy and reducing the financial burden of operating government buildings.
“Pag natapos na po iyan, napakalaki ng matitipid natin,” Robredo said, referring to the savings the city expects once the solar system becomes fully operational.
Beyond the initial installations, Naga City is also incorporating solar readiness into future public infrastructure projects. Upcoming facilities, including the Naga City Hospital Dormitory, Center for Safety and Resiliency, Metro Naga Sports Complex, Jesse M. Robredo Coliseum, and improvements at the Naga City Civic Center, are being planned with provisions for solar panel integration.
The broader rollout would allow more city-owned buildings to generate part of their own electricity as Naga expands the use of renewable energy across government facilities.
