The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver’s license of Angkas co-founder and COO George Royeca after a large gathering of riders caused a traffic standstill in Cainta, Rizal, on February 2.

The decision came after a viral video showed a convoy of Angkas riders blocking an intersection, preventing other vehicles from passing. LTO chief Vigor Mendoza said Royeca admitted to organizing the motorcade, which led to the revocation of his license.

“Dahil inamin niya ang pag-organize ng grupo, na-revoke ang kanyang lisensya,” Mendoza said in a televised interview, adding that the incident resulted in unnecessary traffic disruption.

“Because he admitted to organizing the group, his license was revoked.”

Royeca surrendered his license after the LTO summoned him, acknowledging the lapse in judgment and taking responsibility for what happened. While this means he is temporarily barred from driving, he still has the option to appeal the decision. Some Angkas riders who joined the convoy are now under investigation to determine possible violations.

The issue comes at a critical time for Royeca, who is running for a congressional seat as the first nominee of the ANGKASANGGA party-list in the 2025 elections. In a public apology, he admitted that the incident was a mistake, saying it did not reflect the values of discipline and order that Angkas upholds.

“Walang excuse sa nangyari. Hindi dapat ito nangyari,” Royeca said in a video message, assuring the public that he is fully cooperating with authorities to resolve the matter.

“There is no excuse for what happened. This should not have happened.”
