Mayor Isko Moreno announced that Manila City recorded a 332 percent increase in new business registrations during his State of the City Address at the Quirino Grandstand on June 24 as the capital celebrated its 455th founding anniversary.
Moreno also reported a 105 percent increase in business permit renewals, citing the figures as part of his report on the city’s economic performance during his first year back in office.
The State of the City Address was broadcast live through the official Manila Public Information Office Facebook page and formed part of the Araw ng Maynila celebration, which commemorates the founding of Manila on June 24, 1571.
Aside from the business figures, Moreno highlighted infrastructure projects, flood mitigation initiatives, healthcare and social welfare programs, public service improvements, and efforts to maintain peace and order and cleanliness in the city.
Business registrations and permit renewals contribute to local government revenue through business taxes and permit fees while supporting commercial activity and employment.
