PhilHealth has confirmed that ₱60 billion has been returned to the state health insurer from the National Treasury, with the funds set to support expanded benefits, stronger systems, and faster service delivery for members.
The return of the funds followed a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. PhilHealth announced the development in a Wednesday news release and said the amount will be used to improve health services and reach more citizens. The agency also acknowledged the Department of Finance for facilitating the immediate remittance of the amount.
PhilHealth spokesman Israel Francis Pargas said the returned funds are expected to support the agency’s continuing efforts to expand and improve healthcare services for its members.
“We thank the President for his clear directive to utilize these funds to improve healthcare services and reach every Filipino. PhilHealth remains committed to safeguarding public trust by ensuring that every peso is allocated toward enhancing benefits, streamlining systems, and delivering fast, fair and reliable services,” Pargas said.
PhilHealth said the money will be used to enhance benefit packages, strengthen internal systems, speed up processes, and improve service delivery. The agency said these measures are meant to provide faster, fairer, and more reliable healthcare services to Filipinos nationwide.
In a separate statement, PhilHealth gave the same assurance in Filipino, saying, “Sisiguruhin ng Korporasyon na ang bawat pisong ito ay ilalaan sa pagpapahusay ng mga benepisyo, pagpapalakas ng mga sistema upang mapabilis ang mga proseso, at paghatid sa bawat Pilipino ng serbisyong mabilis, patas, at tunay na mapagkakatiwalaan.”
The returned funds are also expected to help PhilHealth streamline administrative operations while expanding benefit packages for members across the country.
Marcos earlier said his decision to return the funds to PhilHealth, which he announced in September last year, was consistent with his administration’s priority to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
