St. Luke’s Medical Centerr–Global City has expanded its cancer treatment capabilities with the launch of its newest TrueBeam Linear Accelerator system, introducing advanced radiotherapy technology designed to improve precision, efficiency, and patient comfort during cancer treatment.
The upgraded platform combines technologies including HyperSight, RapidArc Dynamic, ExacTrac Dynamic, and HyperArc to help radiation oncologists deliver targeted high-dose treatments directly to tumors while reducing radiation exposure to surrounding healthy tissues by up to 50 percent.
The system’s HyperSight technology provides high-contrast 3D imaging that cuts image acquisition time by half compared with previous systems, helping minimize image blur caused by patient movement. This allows physicians to capture clearer images and improve treatment planning before radiation delivery.
For patients requiring brain tumor treatment, the platform’s HyperArc technology offers a less invasive approach by replacing traditional bolted head frames with a thermoplastic mask. The technology can reduce treatment sessions for patients with multiple brain lesions from three to four hours to around 10 to 15 minutes.
The system also introduces ExacTrac Dynamic, which uses thermal surface monitoring and X-ray tracking to detect sub-millimeter movements, including breathing. The technology allows radiation delivery to automatically pause when patient alignment shifts and resume once precision is restored.
Meanwhile, RapidArc Dynamic improves treatment delivery by adjusting radiation beam intensity and shape around complex tumors through a combination of dynamic collimator rotation, Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy, and Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy.
“This new technology allows us to better target tumors with greater accuracy and greater efficiency,” said Dr. Angela Camacho, Head of Radiation Oncology at St. Luke’s–Global City.
“It’s much safer for the patient and better in terms of total protection.”
