OPM singer and lawyer Jimmy Bondoc climbed from 24th to 15th in Tangere ’s latest survey of potential candidates for the 2028 Senate election. His voter preference increased from 13.7% in August to 18.5% in September, a 4.8-percentage-point rise. He now sits three places outside the top 12, the number of Senate seats to be filled in 2028.
Bondoc’s nine-place jump made him one of the survey’s notable movers. His September numbers brought him closer to the top 12 and represented a significant improvement in his standing within a month. Sen. Loren Legarda, who ranked 12th, recorded 22.5% voter preference, four percentage points higher than Bondoc.
Bondoc had also placed just outside the top 12 in an earlier Pulse Asia senatorial preference survey for the 2028 elections. He recorded a 14.9% voter preference rating and ranked within the 13th to 25th bracket in the survey conducted from June 28 to July 3 and July 6, 2026.
Bondoc has previously secured significant support in a nationwide Senate race. He placed 17th in 2025 with 10,615,538 votes, ahead of Manny Pacquiao, who ranked 18th with 10,397,133 votes. Although Bondoc did not win a Senate seat, his vote count reflected the level of support he brought into the early 2028 surveys.
Bondoc graduated from Ateneo de Manila University with a BA in Communication before establishing a career in music as a singer, songwriter, composer and producer.
He later entered government service at PAGCOR, where he held senior positions in entertainment and corporate social responsibility before serving on its Board of Directors.
While working in government, Bondoc pursued a law degree, beginning at San Beda in 2017 before transferring to the University of the East College of Law in 2019. He earned his Juris Doctor in 2023, graduating third in his batch. He passed the 2023 Bar on his first attempt, among 3,812 successful examinees.
Tangere said its September poll was noncommissioned and conducted through its mobile application from Sept. 10-14. The survey covered 2,400 respondents nationwide using stratified random sampling and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
The firm revised its list of potential candidates between the August and September surveys, removing Vico Sotto, Isko Moreno and Leni Robredo after they indicated they would not seek Senate seats. Bondoc’s latest figures reflect his standing in the revised field ahead of the 2028 election.
