The National Bureau of Investigation said Friday it has filed complaints against the wife and son of former lawmaker Mike Defensor over their alleged involvement in human trafficking.
The case was filed Thursday at the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office. The NBI charged Defensor’s wife, Julie, his son, Miguel, and several others with violating the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act and the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
According to the NBI, Julie serves as chairperson/president, while Miguel serves as treasurer of Zerrin Dev’t Corporation, which owns a club recently raided by the agency, where 54 women were rescued in an entrapment and rescue operation by the NBI Special Task Group.
The NBI said the club operated a scheme offering women as “customer care assistants” for sexual exploitation in exchange for a fee. The victims were reportedly made to perform services in exchange for payments reaching up to ₱20,000.
During the raid, NBI agents reportedly recovered plastic sachets containing white crystalline substances believed to be illegal drugs, among other items.
