Senator Imee Marcos has urged President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to temporarily relieve top National Bureau of Investigation officials while authorities probe the reported firing incident involving NBI agents inside the Senate complex on May 13.
“I respectfully write to express serious concern over the alleged siege and firing of shots by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents within the Senate premises on 13 May 2026,” Marcos wrote in her May 14 letter to the President.
The President’s sister said the incident “caused public alarm and raised grave questions on the security of the Senate and the accountability of law enforcement officers involved.”
Citing the seriousness of the allegations, Senator Marcos called on the President to temporarily relieve NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag, NBI National Capital Region Chief Atty. Emeterio Dongallo Jr. and NBI Organized and Transnational Crime Division Chief Atty. Jerome Bomediano while a “full, impartial, and independent inquiry” is conducted.
“Such temporary relief is necessary to preserve the integrity and credibility of the investigation and to remove any appearance of undue influence or impropriety,” she wrote.
The senator also pointed to what she described as inconsistent public statements from Matibag, including his claim that NBI personnel were merely at the Sequoia Hotel for a fellowship despite reports and videos allegedly showing NBI agents in or near Senate premises.
Marcos said the conflicting accounts made it even more important for the investigation to proceed without any perceived interference as questions continue surrounding the presence and actions of NBI personnel around the Senate complex.
