PGMN Anchor Greco Belgica rejected claims spreading online that he failed to name officials linked to corruption in Congress and the Department of Public Works and Highways, pointing instead to an official report and a public disclosure made by former President Rody Duterte.
In a Facebook post, Belgica asserted that during his stint as chairman of the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission, it carried out its mandate by investigating, filing cases and submitting its findings to the President. He made it clear that naming individuals was never within the commission’s authority. “Ang mandato ng PACC ay isumite ang investigation report sa Pangulo at isampa ang kaso,” Belgica wrote. He stressed that the names were announced by Duterte in a televised address and reported publicly.
Duterte identified several lawmakers from the report linked to anomalies in public works projects, including claims of kickbacks and influence peddling tied to infrastructure contracts. He also ordered the removal of around a dozen district engineers from the Department of Public Works and Highways who were flagged in the same set of reports.
Belgica said the commission acted strictly on evidence and legal process, without regard for political ties. “Wala kaming pinaligtas kapartido, kaibigan o hindi. Batas at ebidensya lang ang aming tiningnan,” he wrote, urging the public to review the official report tied to the disclosure.
Under Belgica, the PACC it investigated more than 13,000 corruption cases, secured the dismissal of 800 officials, and carried out high-profile probes into agencies including PhilHealth and the DPWH. His office emphasized entrapment operations and streamlining anti-corruption efforts before the PACC was abolished in 2022.
